Neurologic Physical Therapy - Parkinson's Disease

With my healthcare, I am always looking for someone who will help me make a difference, Lauren Abelson, physical therapist, is one of those "different makers."  I was diagnosed with Parkinson Disease -PD eight years ago, and have worked with Lauren for the past nine months. It has been  extremely helpful. She readily translates her specialized training in neuroscience and knowledge of PD research to helpful interventions and exercises that target the rigidity, inflexibility, and small muscle movement that are inherent in PD. My work with Lauren in this regard has been invaluable.  Prior to my PD diagnosis, I was a regular exerciser, and post diagnosis I pretty much stuck to the same routine.  However, once Lauren introduced me to the " Power Moves" and showed me how I could incorporate them into my exercise routine, I have benefited significantly with less stiffness and rigidity.

Another quality that makes Lauren such an extraordinary provider is she adeptly mixes her strong clinical skills with high levels of empathy, understanding, and directness.  She gently nudges you to do your best in the meeting with her, and directs  you to how you can carry over what you learned to practice on your own.  Lauren has been an invaluable member of my healthcare team.

I strongly encourage my fellow Parkinson patients, if you have not done so already, to seek a physical therapy consultation. Hopefully, you will find a therapist as skilled as Lauren.

Pediatric Physical Therapy

Lauren was a huge help when my daughter was born with torticollis. She came to my home in Johnson County and worked with her several times. She was so gentle and caring, using fun noises and songs. The whole process was easy and effective. If you are concerned your baby might have torticollis, Lauren should be your first call.

We came to Lauren as we were worried our infant was missing physical milestones. Lauren was personable and extremely knowledgeable. Neurologic Physical Therapy - Stroke Rehabilitation

I met Lauren when I had a stroke 11 years ago. The stroke happened 12 days after My daughter was born. I was physically paralyzed and emotionally drained. It was such a difficult period of my life and Lauren helped me get through it. I will always be grateful for her help. Lauren is a professional, knowledgeable, gifted, most importantly, caring physical therapist. She truly cares about her patients. She strives to do her best to help her patients to achieve the best outcome possible. She was my physical therapist in a span of about one year. I first came to her therapy sessions when I was still on a wheel chair. She worked with me through a cane, AFO, then Walkaide. I am now able to walk without any assistive devices. She was always able to choose the effective workout for me at the therapy sessions. In addition, she promptly revised any of my home exercises as the need arised. Aside from the therapy sessions, she also promptly answered my emails when I had questions at home. She is the best physical therapist a patient could ask for.
